The first day we arrived the German town of Regensburg (Ratisbon) with the beautful medieval centre
and cathedra of the bishop. Ratisbon is situated at the northernmost part of the Danube river. Did you know that here German Pope Benedict was professor? It was the longest distance with our train so we arrived later than usual.

Die erste Station führte uns zurück nach Deutschland in die herrliche Bischofsstadt Regensburg. Übrigens liegt Regensburg am Donauknie und ist somit die nördlichste an der Donau gelegene Stadt. Wußten Sie dass Papst Benedikt XVI. hier Professor war? Es war auch die weiteste Fahrt und so kamen wir hier etwas später an sonst.

First I came to the cathedral. The bishop prays here : it is seat of the dicocese of Regensburg. Even more famous are the Regensburger Domspatzen (cathedral choir). One of the "Domkapellmeister" was the brother of Pope Benedict. The imposant church is dominating the Old town.

Zunächst führte mich mein Weg zum Dom. Neben dem Sitz des Bischofs ist er auch Heimat der Regensburger Domspatzen, deren Kapellmeister lange Zeit der Bruder des Papstes war. Die mächtige Kirche beherrscht den Domplatz und die Altstadt.

Yet in October dusk was breaking in as you can see in my photos. One of the highlights is the Stone Bridge (Steinerne Brücke) from 12th-century. For more than 800 years it was the city's only bridge an the emblem of the city. Both sites of the bridge are UNESCO World heritage Site with about 1000 documentes buildings.

Und weil es schon Oktober ist, kam ich in die Dämmerung, was meine Bilder belegen. Ein Muß ist der Besuch der Steinernen Brücke, die den jenseitigen Stadtteil Stadtamhof mit der Altstadt verbindet. Sie sind das Herzstück des Unesco-Weltkulturerbes mit fast 1000 schützenswerten Gebäuden.

Von der anderen Donauseite ist hier die Altstadt mit dem Dom zu sehen.

Chess player may find something special. Carpenter Johann Zimmermann sells in his own shop near the cathedral (Tändlergasse 7) handmade chess sets.

Für Schachspieler gibt es noch etwas Besonderes. Einen Schachladen, in dem der Schreiner Johann Zimmermann selbst gefertigte Spiele verkauft. Am besten kauft man sie aber vor Ort (Tändlergasse 7 ganz in der Nähe des Doms).
